专利说明:

[0001] The present invention refers to a trunk for motorcycles, as well as a system for opening/closing such trunk and for fitting/disengaging it with respect to a fixed structure of the motorcycle.
[0002] On motorcycles in general, it is well known to use overhead boxes, trunks or trunks suitable for the accommodation of luggage, helmets or other accessories. Such trunks are generally applied to the rear of the motorcycle and usually comprise a special structure that is stably attached to the motorcycle itself, and systems for fitting such structure. Normally, the fitting systems are of the removable type and provided at the bottom of the trunk.
[0003] Among the trunks that can be applied to motorcycles, the so-called lateral trunks are known, which are generally positioned on the sides of the rear wheel of the motorcycle. Such side vaults are normally made of a plastic material and may be provided with special systems for fitting and disengaging on/from the frame of the motorcycle of the type described, for example, in WO 2007/045371 A1 in the name of the present applicant.
[0004] In order to satisfy the needs of the market, side chests for motorcycles made of metallic material, more precisely aluminum foil, have been developed. Due to the intrinsic constructive and technological limitations, these side frames made of aluminum foil have to be completely smooth inside, therefore, without sliding housings for buttons or similar latches. On the other hand, there are conventional chests made of plastic using the injection molding method.
[0005] The metal trunks for motorcycles currently available on the market have two or three separate locks for the separate performance of the opening and closing operations of the trunk and for the fitting and undocking operations of the trunk itself in relation to the frame of the motorcycle. Regardless of the number of locks, the procedure for fitting metal trunks of the type known to a motorcycle is still very complex and laborious.
[0006] In addition, it is commonly known that the side crossbows can be mounted on a motorcycle in combination with a top center rear case that is normally positioned above such side crossbows. The rear central upper box may be of a width such as to at least partially cover the side pods, as shown, for example, in Figure 11. In such a case, when the side pods are provided with a top cover which can be opened in the top, as shown, for example, in Figure 12, the upper central rear box may interfere with the opening of the trunks. In other words, the lid of each side box cannot be fully opened due to the presence of the upper box, with consequent limitations regarding the accessibility of the boxes.
[0007] The purpose of the present invention is, therefore, to produce a trunk for motorcycles, as well as a system for opening/closing such trunk and for fitting/disengaging it with respect to a fixed structure of the motorcycle, objective it is able to solve the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in an extremely simple, cost-effective and particularly functional manner.
[0008] In detail, a purpose of the present invention is to produce a trunk for motorcycles, in particular a side trunk made of metallic material, in which it is possible to carry out the opening and closing operations of the trunk and the docking and disengage the trunk in question from the motorcycle frame using only one wrench.
[0009] Another purpose of the present invention is to produce a trunk for motorcycles, in particular a side trunk made of metallic material, in which it is possible to carry out the operations of fitting and undocking the trunk in relation to the motorcycle frame in a simple manner and fast.
[0010] Another objective of the present invention is to produce a trunk for motorcycles that can be fully accessible when there is also a top central rear box or any other object disposed in the vicinity of the trunk lid that may hinder its opening.
[0011] Another objective of the present invention is to produce a trunk for motorcycles in which it is possible to prevent the accidental or unwanted opening of the cover in question, or at least reduce the probability of this occurring.
[0012] Yet another objective of the present invention is to produce a trunk for motorcycles and a corresponding system for opening/closing and fitting/disengaging it with respect to a fixed structure of the motorcycle provided with a simple and robust structure.
[0013] These objectives, according to the present invention, are obtained by producing a trunk for motorcycles and a corresponding system for opening/closing and fitting/disengaging it with respect to the fixed structure of the motorcycle, as described in claim 1.
[0014] Other features of the present invention are highlighted from the dependent claims, which form an integral part of this description.
[0015] The characteristics and advantages of a trunk for motorcycles and a corresponding opening/closing and fitting/disengaging system of the same with respect to a fixed structure of the motorcycle, according to the present invention, become are more evident from the following description, given as an example and not for the purpose of limiting the present invention, and with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings, in which:

[0038] Figures 18A, 18B, 18C and 18D show the steps of snapping the lid with respect to the base portion of one of the trunks of Figure 11.
[0039] With particular reference to Figures 1A to 10C, two very similar embodiments of the trunk for motorcycles according to the present invention are shown, both indicated with the reference numeral 10. The trunk 10, preferably in the form of a parallelepiped, essentially comprises a base portion 12, a lid 14 hinged to such base portion 12 so as to change from an open configuration to a closed configuration of the trunk 10 and vice versa, and a support structure 16 which can be pressed in. on one side towards the base portion 12.
[0040] The support structure 16, of the tubular type, is designed, therefore, in order to be pressed, on the opposite side, towards a fixed structure of the motorcycle, such as, for example, the rear fender or the load-bearing frame of the motorcycle itself, by a fitting means of the known type. The trunk 10 can thus be applied to the motorcycle both in the lateral position ("side luggage compartment") as well as above the rear fender of the motorcycle itself ("rear upper box"), although other applications in different positions on the motorcycle should not be excluded, without, for this reason, departing from the scope of protection of the present invention. For example, as shown in Figures 11 and 12, the trunk 10 can be configured to be applied to the motorcycle in a lateral position and to present a generic upper case B above it.
[0041] On one side of the base portion 12, a locking mechanism 18 with a key 20 operatively connected to the cover 14 is permanently pressed. In accordance with the present invention, the trunk 10 is provided with a first releasable engagement means between the base portion 12 and the cap 14 and a second releasable engagement means 28 between said base portion 12 and the support structure 16. Both the first engagement means and the second engagement means 28 are simultaneously released by the key 20 of the locking mechanism 18 so as to selectively obtain the opening of the lid 14 with respect to the base portion 12 and/or the disengagement of such base portion 12 with respect to support structure 16, as will be described in more detail in the remainder of the description.
[0042] In detail, the base portion 12 of the trunk is provided, on one side, with the locking mechanism 18 and, on the opposite side, with a pin 22 that acts as a pivot point for the lid 14's rotation. with respect to the base portion 12. As shown in Figures 2A to 2D, on the base portion 12, all the elements that allow the reversible attachment of the trunk 10 to the support structure 16 are still made integral. These reversible fastening elements comprise at least one formed recess 24 suitable for the insertion into their interior of at least one corresponding head pin 26 obtained on the support structure 16 (in the embodiments shown in the figures, the formed recesses 24 and the corresponding pins of head 26 are in number two). These reversible fastening elements, furthermore, comprise the second releasable engagement means 28 between the base portion 12 and the support structure 16.
[0043] On the upper end of the base portion 12, a perimeter profile 30 is further applied, acting as an aesthetic finish and as a coupling edge with the cover 14.
[0044] The lid 14 of the trunk 10 (Figures 3A and 3B) is, in turn, provided with a first pin 32 that can be engaged in the first releasable engagement means between the base portion 12 and such lid 14, as well as with a rotation hinge 36 which can be fitted to the pin 22 of the base portion 12. The shape of such a rotation hinge 36 makes it possible, when a certain rotation angle is obtained, to pull the lid 14 out of the portion. of base 12 in order to allow the trunk 10 to be loaded more easily.
[0045] A perimeter profile 38 that couples to the respective profile 30 of the base portion 12 is, furthermore, applied on the lower edge of the lid 14. On the perimeter profile 38 of the lid 14, a seat is formed for the positioning of a sealing gasket 40. On the cover 14, angular plates 42 are also applied, which allow a pair of tubular bars 44 to be fixed and which act as handles for the movement of the trunk 10 and for a possible removal of the cover 14 of the base portion 12. The lid is finally finished with a series of pins 46, preferably four pins, which allow the user to secure objects above the trunk 10 thanks to the commonly used elastic straps.
[0046] With reference to Figures 4A and 4B, they illustrate, in detail, a first modality of the support structure 16 which can be pressed, by means of a known type, onto a fixed portion of the motorcycle and which is essentially made of a metal tube bent to form a rectangular frame, connected at its four corners. On the lower portion of the rectangular frame 16, the aforementioned head pins 26 are fixed. These head pins 26 are shaped so as to be inserted into and coupled to the recesses 24 which are present on the base portion 12.
[0047] In the upper portion of the rectangular frame 16, a first metal plate 48 is made integral over it, by means of suitable folding operations, a flange 50 being formed, as described in more detail in the rest of the description, which allows the fitting of the trunk 10 to the rectangular frame 16 and, therefore, to the motorcycle. In the upper portion of the rectangular frame 16, a second metal plate 52 is made integral and which acts as an anti-intrusion barrier in order to protect the second engaging means 28 against possible attempts to steal the trunk 10. The rectangular frame 16 is finished with a plurality of rubber dampers 54 which, coming into contrast and deforming against the base portion 12 in the fitted configuration of the trunk 10, has the function of eliminating the assembly gaps and, therefore, avoiding unpleasant vibrations and noises when user.
[0048] With reference to Figures 4C, 4D and 4E, a second embodiment of the support structure 16 is illustrated in detail. In this second embodiment of the support structure 16, the first metal sheet 48 has been replaced by an equivalent bar 158 made of molten metal, on which one or more teeth 160 for engaging such support structure 16 are integrally obtained. One or more plugs 162 made of molten metal and which act as an intrusion barrier against theft are therefore attached to each tooth 160 to the molten metal bar 158.
[0049] In this second embodiment, the rubber dampers 164 are not mounted on the support structure 16, but directly on the trunk 10, as shown, for example, in Figures 2C and 2D. The function of these rubber dampers 164, however, remains the same as the rubber dampers 54 of the first embodiment of the support structure 16.
[0050] The second modality of the support structure 16, in addition to simplifying the production and functionality of the case 10 as a whole, features a fitting indicating device that allows the user to know whether the fitting of the case 10 with respect to the support structure 16 occurred correctly. The snap-on indicating device is visible in the exploded view of Figure 4E.
[0051] The snap-in indicating device is made of one or more indicating components 166 of plastic material enclosed between the bar 158 and the respective one or more plugs 162, and are capable of rotating with respect to the support structure 16. The rotation of the indicating components 166 is contrasted by the respective springs 168 which are interposed between the indicating components 166 themselves and the corresponding plugs 162.
[0052] The upper portion 170 of each indication component 166 is provided with two separate indication signs, one of which is, for example, red, which indicates the condition in which the trunk 10 is not fitted to the support structure in question 16, and the other of which is, for example, green, which indicates the condition in which the case 10 is correctly fitted to the support structure in question 16. The upper portion 170, with the two colored indication signs, it is visible through a slit 172 (Figures 8G and 8H) obtained at the coupling point between the bar 158 and the respective plugs 162.
[0053] When the trunk 10 is disengaged from the support structure in question 16, the upper portion 170 of each indicating component 166 always shows the user the first color (red), as indicated in Figure 8G. When, on the other hand, the trunk 10 is fitted to the support structure in question 16 (Figure 8H), the latch 88 acts on a lower portion 174 of each indication component 166, causing it to rotate so that, through slit 172, the second color (green) can be seen.
[0054] With reference to Figures 5A, 5B and 5C, they show the locking mechanism 18 illustrated in detail. It consists of a main body 56 made of plastic material, into which a latch 58 is inserted consisting of a stator/bushing 60, a rotor 62 and the key 20. The rotor 62 is pressed against a lower latch plate 64. Therefore, when turning the key 20, the same rotation will occur in the lower locking plate 64. On the rotating lower locking plate 64, an eccentric disk 66 and two teeth 68 are integrally obtained.
[0055] The eccentric disk 66 of the lower locking plate 64 is coupled to a latch 70. The rotation of the key 20 and, therefore, the rotation of the assembly consisting of the rotor 62 and the lower locking plate 64 generates, by means of from the action of the eccentric disk 66, the linear horizontal displacement of the latch 70. The need for such displacement will become more evident in the rest of the description.
[0056] The locking mechanism 18 further comprises a hinged snap-in tooth 72 on which two slots 74 are obtained that engage the first pin 32 which is fixed to the cover 14. On the hinged snap-in tooth 72, which forms the first releasable engaging means between the base portion 12 and the lid 14, two protrusions 76 are further obtained, in order to allow the tightening by the user in the step of opening and/or closing the lid 12, and a bush 78 The articulated snap-in tooth 72 is rotatably connected to the main body 56 of the locking mechanism 18 by means of a connecting rod 80 which is provided with two parallel pins 82 and 84, a pin 82 being integral with the snap-in tooth 72, and the another pin 84 being integral with the main body 56. Thanks to the connecting rod 80, the engaging tooth 72 can rotatably translate from the closed position to the open position of the locking mechanism 18.
[0057] With reference to Figures 6A and 6B, the second snap-in means 28 between the base portion 12 and the support structure 16 is finally illustrated in detail. This second releasable engagement means 28 comprises, firstly, a main liner 86 which is made of plastic material and is secured to the base portion 12. In the main liner 86, at least one latch 88 is slidably inserted (the latches 88 are preferably two in number) on which an inclined tooth 90 and a cylindrical pin 92 are integrally obtained. At least one cylindrical spring 94 is provided, which acts by compression with respect to the main casing 86, which allows movement, in the vertical direction, of each latch 88. In the main casing 86, a disengaging slide 96 is further inserted from sliding mode, on which one or more grooves 98 and one or more eyes 100 are formed.
[0058] The second releasable engagement means 28 between the base portion 12 and the support structure 16 thus comprises a fixing bracket 102 which is fixed to the base portion 12 and is provided with two through holes 104. disengaging lever 106 is provided, which is equipped with a clamping knob 108 on one side and with two other pairs of through holes 110 and 124 on the opposite side (Figure 6B). Such release lever 106 is hingedly attached to the attachment bracket 102 via a first shaft 126 which is inserted through the holes 104, and the first pair of holes 110 and is then connected to the release slider 96 with a second shaft 128 which is inserted through the eyes 100 and the second pair of holes 124 (Figure 7). The second releasable engagement means 28 between the base portion 12 and the support structure 16 is finally finished with a lid 112 and with a corner cover box 114 which functions in terms of the appearance and protection of the second engagement means. releasable 28.
[0059] The release slider 96 and the latches 88 slide into their respective housings 116 and 118 made on the main shell 86. The latches 88 and the release slider 96 are connected to each other by inserting the cylindrical pins 92 in the formed slots 98. In such a way, a horizontal displacement of the release slide 96 generates a vertical movement of the latches 88.
[0060] The system for opening/closing and snapping/undocking of the trunk 10 according to the present invention allows the user to perform the opening/closing and snapping/undocking functions in a simple and intuitive way. The modalities with which these functions can be performed are shown in the rest of the description.
[0061] The fitting of the trunk 10 in the tubular support structure 16, and therefore in the fixed part of the motorcycle, can occur either with the key 20 in the open position or with the key 20 in the closed position. This feature allows the user to fit the trunk 10 to the motorcycle without using the key 20 of the locking mechanism 18 in any way.
[0062] In order to perform the fitting, it is necessary to place the case 10 next to the support structure 16, inserting the head pins 26 in the corresponding formed recesses 24 obtained on the base portion 12. By means of gravity, the case 10 moves downward so that the head pins 26 reach the bottom of the formed recesses 24 (see Figure 8A). Then, it is necessary to rotate the trunk 10 towards the support structure 16 by means of a pivot movement on the head pins 26 until the slanted teeth 90 of the latches 88 come into contact with the flange 50 of the first sheet metal 48 which is part of the tubular support frame 16 (Figures 8A to 8C) or with the engaging teeth 160 of the cast metal bar 158 (Figures 8D to 8F).
[0063] Through the effect of the inclined plane obtained on the top of each tooth 90, the latches 88 slide down (see Figures 8B and 8E) and when the flanging 50 or the engaging teeth 160 are passed, under the effect of cylindrical springs 94, the latches return upwards, thus pressing the trunk 10 against the tubular support structure 16.
[0064] It is important to note that the latches 88 are not "key-locked", i.e., they cannot be locked in the closed position by the key 20 for fixing the trunk 10. Therefore, a possible malicious person could lower the latches with any tool to steal the trunk 10. In order to avoid this inconvenience, the second anti-intrusion metal plate 52 is fixed to the tubular support structure 16.
[0065] In order to describe the step of disengaging the trunk 10 from the tubular support structure 16, we must consider as the starting position the one in which such trunk 10 is fitted to the tubular support structure 16 and the latch 20 is closed. In this operational condition, the end portion 120 of the release lever 106 is below the flange 122 (Figure 5C) of the latch 70 of the locking mechanism 18. It is therefore impossible, in this operational condition, to move the release lever 106 (see Figure 9A). By inserting the key 20 in the vertical position inside the lock mechanism 18 and, therefore, by making the lock in question 58 rotate in the open position (90° rotation), the rotation of the lower lock plate 64 and consequently, the horizontal displacement of the latch 70 into the main body 56 until there is no longer an interference between the end 120 of the release lever 106 and the flange 122 (see Figure 9B).
[0066] At this time, it is possible to act on the tightening knob 108 so that, when turning the release lever 106 outwards, there is a horizontal translation of the release slide 96 and, consequently, the downward displacement of the latches 88 until there is no longer an interference between the latches 88 themselves and the flange 50 of the first sheet metal 48, or the snap teeth 160 of the cast metal bar 158, thereby allowing the trunk 10 to be removed from the motorcycle (see Figure 9C).
[0067] The movement of the latches 88 is generated by the fact that its cylindrical pin 92 is in contact with the inner surface of the formed slots 98 of the casing 86. When translating the release slide 96, the shape of the formed slots 98 makes move latches 88 down (see Figure 9D). When the trunk 10 is removed from the tubular support structure 16, the latches 88 return to their original position due to the action of the cylindrical springs 94.
[0068] Finally, in order to describe the opening and closing operations of the case 10, we must consider as the starting point the condition in which a case 10 is closed, with the snap-in tooth 72 of the locking mechanism 18 that is snapped in on the first pin 32 of the cap 14 in order to keep such cap 14 locked onto the base portion 12. In this condition, it is not possible to move the engaging tooth 72, since the bush 78 is locked under one of the teeth 68 of the plate lower latch 64 (see Figure 10A).
[0069] In order to open the trunk 10, the key 20 must be inserted in the vertical position inside the lock 58. Then, when making the lock 58 rotate to the open position (90° rotation) a rotation occurs of the lower locking plate 64 until there is no further interference between the tooth 68 of the lower locking plate 64 and the bush 78 of the locking tooth 72. It is now possible to make the locking tooth 72 rotate and therefore remove the fitting with the first pin 32 of the cap 14. The cap 14 is therefore free to rotate around the other pin 22 of the base portion 12, thanks to the rotation hinge 36, and therefore , to open the trunk 10 (see Figure 10C).
[0070] The closing of the trunk occurs substantially with the operations executed in a reverse order with respect to what was described above. Therefore, it is necessary to place the cap 14 close to the base portion 12 and manipulate the snap-in tooth 72 until it engages the first pin 32 of the cap 14 in question. Therefore, it is necessary to turn this socket tooth 72 until it is brought back to its "natural" position within the main body 56 of the lock mechanism 18 and finally turn the key 20 in the lock 58 so as to put it in its closed vertical position.
[0071] Next, with reference to Figures 13 to 18D, another embodiment of the case 10 is shown. On the opposite side of the base portion 12 with respect to the side on which the locking mechanism 18 is permanently pressed, a slider mechanism 130 (Figure 14) is provided which, in a first operational configuration, is capable of holding the cover 14 rotatably connected to the base portion 12 so as to allow it to be opened/closed with respect to said base portion 12 and which, in a second operational configuration, is capable of disengaging the lid 14 with respect to the base portion 12 of so as to allow it to be removed with respect to such base portion 12 and thus improve accessibility to the trunk 10. In detail, the lid 14 of the trunk 10 (Figure 13) is provided, on one side, with the first pin 32 which is engageable in the locking mechanism 18 and, on the opposite side, with a second pin 132 which is engageable in the slider mechanism 130.
[0072] As shown in Figures 15 and 16, the slider mechanism 130 comprises a base plate 134 that is pressed against the base portion 12 of the trunk 10, and a bottom 136 that is vertically mounted within the base plate 134 and fixed to it by means of blind rivets 138. The blind rivets 138 guarantee greater security against theft with regard to the use of common screws, since screws can be easily removed with a screwdriver, while rivets require the use of a drill and take a long time to remove. The base plate 134 is provided with grooves 150 suitable for containing the second pin 132 of the cover 14 in the first operational configuration of the trunk 10.
[0073] On the bottom 136, special housings 140 are formed, which house respective contrast springs 142 for a sliding slide 144 that can be manually actuated. The slide 144 is, in turn, provided at the top with recessed portions 152 which, in cooperation with the grooves 150 of the base plate 134, are suitable for containing the second pin 132 of the cap 14 in the first operational configuration of the trunk 10.
[0074] The contrasting action of springs 142 normally keeps slide 144 pushed up. Such slide 144 could therefore slide vertically downwards by manual actuation on a specific thrust surface thereof. When released, the slide 144 returns to its initial position through the effect of the springs 142. The slide 144 cannot accidentally come out of the bottom 136, since a button 136 is provided with a locking tooth 146 which juxtaposes against a corresponding locking tooth 148 provided on the slide 144.
[0075] In operational terms, as shown in Figures 17A to 17C, in order to mount the cover 14 on the base portion 12, it is necessary to initially move the slider 144 downwards. Then, the second pin 132 of the cover 14 is inserted into the grooves 150 of the base plate 134 of the slider mechanism 130. This last operation is carried out with the cover 14 in the inclined position. It is finally necessary to release the slide 144 so that the recessed portions in question 152 are surrounded by the second pin 132. In such a way, the second pin 132 of the cover 14 will remain locked inside the grooves 150, thanks to the action of the portions recessed 152 of the cursor 144.
[0076] In order to remove the cover 14 from the base portion 12, as shown in Figures 18A to 18D, it is necessary, initially, to unlock the locking mechanism 18 with the key 20 in question in order to disengage the first pin 32 of the lid 14. At this point, it is possible to make the lid 14 rotate around the second pin 132 which is opposite the first pin 32. When the trunk 10 has an upper box B above it, such rotation could also be done in a small amount, that is, in only a few degrees (8° maximum) so that there is no interference between the lid 14 and the bottom of the upper case B.
[0077] When the rotation of the cap 14 around the second pin 132 is made, it is possible to push the slide 144 down until such second pin 132 disengages from the recessed portions 152 of the slide 144. By moving the cap 14 outwards of the trunk 10 (Figure 18D) it is finally possible to extract the second pin 132 from the slots 150 and, therefore, definitively remove such cover 14.
[0078] It should be noted that when the trunk 10 is closed, that is, when the first pin 32 of the cover 14 is locked by the locking mechanism 18, the cover 14 cannot be removed, as it will not be able to translate so as to allow the extraction of its second pin 132 from the slots 150 of the base plate 134. In order to further improve the strength of the trunk 10, the second pin 132 is made integral with the cover 14 through a piece 154 provided with a flange 156, which is made integral with such part 154 (Figure 16) which partially covers a second pin 132 and makes it more difficult for a malicious person to act on the second pin 132 in question with tools to theft.
[0079] It was, therefore, observed that the trunk for motorcycles and its corresponding system for opening/closing and fitting/disengaging it with respect to a fixed structure of the motorcycle, according to the present invention, achieve the objectives outlined above . In fact, thanks to the rotation of a single key with which the trunk lock mechanism is provided, it is possible for the user to decide when to open the trunk or unclip it from the motorcycle.
[0080] The trunk for motorcycles of the present invention thus conceived can, in any case, undergo numerous modifications and variations, all covered by the same inventive concept. Furthermore, all the details can be replaced by technically equivalent elements. In practice, the materials used, as well as their shapes and dimensions, can be any material, according to technical standards.
[0081] The scope of protection of the present invention is therefore defined by the appended claims.
